The San Diego Technology Incubator is a joint project of the City of San Diego and the San Diego Community College District. Originally funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce/Economic Development Administration, the Incubator is now self-supporting. This 19,000 square foot facility is an element of the Advanced Technology Center, which resides at San Diego City College. The San Diego Technology Incubator supports the economic development of the region by sheltering and supporting new technology ventures.

The Incubator features moderately priced offices, lab and manufacturing facilities, computer network and other support services to help early-stage and emerging companies with the edge they need to succeed during their "incubation period" of from one to three years. Professional assistance offered to resident companies include: guidance in structuring technological links with other businesses, Internet website design/hosting access to manufacturing demonstration labs and making referrals to other regional economic development resources and subject area experts. According to a study by the Small Business Administration, Coopers and Lybrand, and the National Business Incubation Association, the majority of new businesses fail within the first five years, but companies starting in incubators have up to an 80% survival rate beyond the 5-year milestone.

Our Mission

The mission of the San Diego Technology Incubator is to support economic revitalization by nurturing start-up and fledgling technology, technology service and manufacturing companies. The San Diego Technology Incubator provides reasonably priced facilities, business development, computer network, conference room and support services to assist potentially viable companies intending to develop products with a significant technology element. This strategic assistance enables new companies resident entering the commercial marketplace with the strength they will need and be competitive manufacturers, suppliers and employers, thereby contributing to the strength of the economy in the San Diego Region.
